From Chaos to Calm is a small, supportive group for neurodivergent children ages 6–10 who would benefit from extra help developing executive functioning skills—the brain skills that help kids pause, plan, organize, and follow through. Many bright, capable kids struggle in these areas, especially when they have busy brains, big feelings, or difficulty shifting gears.
In this group, we focus on building the core skills that help daily life feel more manageable. Children practice impulse control, emotional regulation, flexible thinking, working memory, self-monitoring, planning and prioritizing, task initiation, and organization. The goal is to help kids become more aware of what their brain and body are doing in the moment so they can pause, think through their choices, and respond more thoughtfully.
Skills are taught through play-based learning, including structured activities, movement games, cooperative challenges, and creative art projects. These engaging activities give kids repeated opportunities to practice slowing down, remembering steps, adjusting when plans change, and solving problems with others. Because the learning happens through play, children build these skills in a way that feels natural, motivating, and fun.
Over time, children develop practical tools that support success at home, at school, and with peers. They learn how to manage big feelings, stay organized, approach challenges with greater confidence, and recover more easily when things don’t go as planned. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s helping kids build the skills and self-awareness that allow their busy brains to move from chaos to calm.
Who Is This Group For?
This group may be a good fit for kids who:
Act impulsively or have difficulty pausing before reacting
Experience big emotions and need support calming their bodies and minds
Struggle with organization, planning, or remembering multi-step directions
Have difficulty getting started on tasks or following through
Become frustrated when plans change or when things don’t go as expected
Would benefit from practicing problem-solving and flexible thinking in a supportive peer group
Children do not need to have a formal diagnosis to participate - just a busy brain that could use some extra tools.
What Kids Will Take Away From the Group
Children will leave the group with practical tools and strategies they can use in everyday life. Over time, they will build:
Stronger impulse control – learning how to pause and think before reacting
Better emotional regulation – tools for calming their bodies and managing big feelings
More flexible thinking – practicing how to adjust when plans change or things feel frustrating
Improved working memory – strategies for remembering directions and multi-step tasks
Greater independence with starting tasks, staying organized, and following through
Confidence in problem-solving when challenges arise at school, at home, or with peers
Increased self-awareness about what their brain and body need in the moment
Most importantly, children experience success in a supportive, playful environment where they can practice these skills without pressure—helping them feel more capable, confident, and in control.
